WHAT DOES IT REQUIRE TO BE A REFEREE?
WHAT DOES IT REQUIRE TO BE A REFEREE?
You will need to take a minimum 16 hour course which consists of one whole weekend (Fri-Sun). The cost of the clinic varies from state to state, usually in Kentucky it is around $55. There is no age limit. The material is based on a seventh grade reading and comprehension level. At the end of the course you will take a 100 multiple choice/true-false question test.
After you pass the course you will need to purchase your equipment. Official Sports is the official sponsor of the US Soccer Referee Program. Both House of Soccer (in Radcliff) and Soccer Premier (in Elizabethtown) carry referee equipment. You will need to purchase: Yellow short sleeve jersey, plain black shorts, and 3-striped black ref socks. You will also need a whistle, digital watch with seconds (not the kind worn around your neck), black shoes, data wallet (score cards, red and yellow cards) and a bag. Do not spend more than $50-$100 on your ref equipment until you are sure you like refereeing. House of Soccer and Soccer Premier both offer referee kits for you to purchase at a reasonable price.
Once you have taken your course and passed contact me with your contact information. I will put you on my email list and begin contacting you to request your availability each week. You will then be assigned games and work closely with me on training.
